Moving to Seattle in Aug/Sept. 2011
« on: May 02, 2011, 05:19:26 AM »
Hey y'all! I've never done this message thing before, so be patient.  I'm from Alabama and I will be moving to Seattle toward the end of August 2011.  I'm a bit of a gypsy...have never visited Seattle but always thought I'd like it, so I decided, "Why not just move there?" I've been researching the different neighborhoods and glanced over some job postings.  I'm 27 years old, college-educated, extremely laid-back, raised in the good 'ole South, enjoy being in the hustle and bustle of a city, yet still enjoy moments of peace and quiet.  I have extensive work experience in the nonprofit field.  I don't plan to find a job/apartment until I arrive, so I will either stay with a friend or in a hostel until I can get everything arranged.  Any advice on job searches? Or good neighborhoods?

Welcome!  I admire anyone who can just pack up and move to a place they've never been before.  You picked a good random city to move to though.  What neighborhoods seem to resonate with you based on your initial research?  I'd want to know a little more about what you are looking for before making any suggestions.

As for jobs, the big nonprofit that comes to mind is the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  They're building a new HQ in Lower Queen Anne and I think they're hiring.
